The bottom line is that there are three options for how your data is shared –
- No Sharing – Your data stays completely on the phone.
- Sharing with the prediction model and backups – If you want backups + better predictions then your data is stored in a cloud database but not shared with anyone.
- Sharing with friends – If you want to share a session with only your friends then select that option when you are saving a session.
No Sharing
To make sure none of your data leaves your phone turn off the “Use my sessions to increase prediction accuracy” setting.
Prediction Model + Backups
If you leave this setting turned on then your session data is backed up in an encrypted database in the cloud. We then use this session data to build a model that provides the predicted ratings you see in the app.
Even with this setting turned on your session data is never shared with anyone else nor is it able to be used by surfers to find new or secret spots. It is only used to build the prediction model.
Sharing Sessions with Friends
When you save a session you have the option to share that session with friends. If you choose to share it then the session will show up in all your friend’s app under the “Friend’s Sessions” screen.
You can un-share sessions at any time and the session will no longer show up in friend’s apps.
Deleting your Account
To delete your account and all your data go to the settings screen in the app and hit the “Delete Account” button. Alternatively, email nickp@lazysurfer.app and tell me to delete your account.
